Day 279
Thoughts: Today I had ART by Dr. John M Ruddy, D.C.!
Dr John Ruddy is a Chiropractor. D.D. Palmer founded chiropractic in the 1890s and his son B.J. Palmer helped to expand it in the early 20th century. Throughout its history it has been controversial. For most of its existence, chiropractic has battled with mainstream medicine, sustained by ideas such as subluxation that are not based on solid science. The American Medical Association called chiropractic an "unscientific cult"and boycotted it until losing an antitrust case in 1987. This is the same company that makes billions of dollars yearly to sell you chemo treatments or use mercury in vaccinations.
Today I chatted with John and he shares his world with us:
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a branch of the healing arts which is based upon the understanding that good health depends, in part, upon a normally functioning nervous system (especially the spine, and the nerves extending from the spine to all parts of the body). "Chiropractic" comes from the Greek word Chiropraktikos, meaning "effective treatment by hand." Chiropractic stresses the idea that the cause of many disease processes begins with the body's inability to adapt to its environment.
It looks to address these diseases not by the use of drugs and chemicals, but by locating and adjusting a musculoskeletal area of the body which is functioning improperly.
Previous to going to visit Dr Ruddy I experienced tension in my neck and my head from holding my head out forward and my legs were uneven; I was not aware of this! One session with Dr Ruddy and he straightened me out - realigned me! Immediately I felt the pressure relieved and felt light and even. I visit him every two weeks now as I slowly slip back into the muscle memory of unbalanced alignment and on the visits he pops me back into place in less than 20 minutes!
What is Active Release Techniques (ART) ?
ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based massage technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves. Headaches, back pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, knee problems, and tennis elbow are just a few of the many conditions that can be resolved quickly and permanently with ART. These conditions all have one important thing in common: they are often a result of overused muscles.
How do overuse conditions occur?
Over-used muscles (and other soft tissues) change in three important ways:
• acute conditions (pulls, tears, collisions, etc),
• accumulation of small tears (micro-trauma)
• not getting enough oxygen (hypoxia).
Each of these factors can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area. This scar tissue binds up and ties down tissues that need to move freely. As scar tissue builds up, muscles become shorter and weaker, tension on tendons causes tendonitis, and nerves can become trapped. This can cause reduced range of motion, loss of strength, and pain. If a nerve is trapped you may also feel tingling, numbness, and weakness.
What is an ART treatment like?
ART is a combination of examination and treatment. The ART provider uses his or her hands to evaluate the texture, tightness and movement of muscles, fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves. Abnormal tissues are treated by combining precisely directed tension with very specific patient movements.
These treatment protocols - over 500 specific moves - are unique to ART. They allow providers to identify and correct the specific problems that are affecting each individual patient. ART is not a cookie-cutter approach.

Day 278
Thoughts: US almond growers achieve court victory in fight against mandatory fumigation!
Provided by Natural News; Three years after the USDA destroyed the U.S. raw almond business by forcing almond producers to fumigate or pasteurize their nuts, a significant victory has been achieved that could overturn that onerous regulation. A federal appeals court has ruled that California almond farmers may now challenge the USDA regulation in the courts.
Why is this a victory? Because for years, a federal district court has ruled that almond growers could not even challenge the rule. The USDA's power over farmers was absolutely, the court seemed to say, and no mere peasants can challenge the King.
But today that has all changed. A Cornucopia Institute press release announces the details of this court decision:
From the Cornucopia Institute...
See original release at Cornucopia.org
WASHINGTON, DC – A federal appeals court ruled today, overturning a lower court decision, that a group of California almond farmers have the right to challenge a USDA regulation requiring the treatment of their raw almonds with a toxic fumigant or steam heat prior to sale to consumers. For the past three years, the U.S. Department of Agriculture has denied American consumers the right to buy raw almonds, grown in the USA, when they shop in grocery and natural food stores.
A group of almond growers sued the government to challenge USDA's rule, but the federal district court ruled that courtroom doors were closed to the growers' claims. The controversial rule has cost individual farmers millions of dollars in lost sales since it was enacted in September 2007.
"We are delighted by the court's decision," said Will Fantle, Cornucopia's Research Director. Cornucopia has been coordinating the legal strategy for the farmers' lawsuit. "At long last the farmers who have been injured by this rule will have the opportunity to stand in court and state why this poorly thought out regulation should be thrown out," Fantle added.
The USDA and the Almond Board of California imposed the treatment scheme to minimize the risk of salmonella contamination outbreaks like those that had occurred with almonds in 2001 and 2004. USDA investigators were never able to determine how salmonella bacteria somehow contaminated the raw almonds that caused the food illnesses but they were able to trace back one of the outbreaks, in part, to the country's largest "factory farm," growing almonds and pistachios on over 9000 acres.
Family-scale growers have argued that the onerous and expensive mandated treatment regime is only needed by the giant industrial producers, who have less control over the quality of their nuts, and has hurt their market because it consumer resistance.
Many in the industry have questioned the logic exempting foreign-grown almonds from the treatment scheme. Imports have displaced raw domestic nuts in many major markets and retail locations across the U.S. This regulatory loophole is part of what has been crushing California producers.
"I am very happy with this first step in overturning this destructive regulation," said Nick Koretoff, an almond farmer and plaintiff in the lawsuit. "The treatment mandate has been a financial catastrophe for me. My consumers want raw, untreated healthy almonds and I have been denied the opportunity to sell them what they want."
Attorney John Vetne, who has been representing the almond farmers, said the Appeals Court made a "very strong decision affirming farmers' rights." The USDA had been arguing that farmers did not even have the right to legally challenge the USDA regulation. "We are pleased that the Appeals Court rejected USDA's argument that courthouse doors are closed to farmers. We now intend to demonstrate to the federal district court that USDA acted outside of authority granted by Congress when it denied California almond growers a consumer market for raw almonds," Vetne added.
Tens of thousands of consumers have expressed their discontent with the raw almond treatment rule in comments to the USDA. Organic and raw foods enthusiasts were particularly incensed that the nuts, despite being processed with propylene oxide (identified as a carcinogen by the federal EPA) or steam-heat, were still allowed to be labeled as "raw" -- many believe that essential nutrients in food can be destroyed by heat, radiation and toxic chemicals.
The Cornucopia Institute, an organization known for its research and defense of family farmers involved in organics, artisan and local food production, was impressed with how many consumers have a real passion for maintaining the availability of raw food and nuts, including almonds, and have been willing to financially support the farmers in their legal challenge. "Contributions continue to flow in supporting this effort," Fantle noted.
"I and many of my friends look forward to the day when we will once again be able to easily purchase truly raw, authentic almonds from California in my local store," said Joan Levin, a Chicago resident and raw foods consumer. "We hope this Appeals Court ruling brings that day closer," she said.

Day 277
Thoughts: Summer time is the time to sweat! How sweating is healthy for you ...
As the summer temperatures rise, air conditioners become the number one option for most people to escape the heat.
But long hours of sitting under cold wind from air conditioners might cause health problems, according to Xu Qian, director with infectious diseases department of China-Japan Friendship Hospital in Beijing.
"People should go with the rules of nature. Summer is the time to sweat," says Xu. "It's a natural process for the body to respond to the outside environment, and adjust itself through the constricting of blood vessels, and nerves. In this sense, air conditioning is a reactive restrain of the body against nature."
As the body tries to continually adjust between the outside and the cool air-conditioned indoor environment, Xu says the temperature compromises people's immune systems, and gives diseases a chance to flourish.
Xu's hospital has witnessed increasing cases of colds, fever and pneumonia during the summer, many of which are related to the use of cold air conditioning, according to the doctor.
"Air conditioning might induce infection of the upper respiratory tract, cause colds, throat pain, pharyngitis, and even pneumonia," says the doctor. "Besides, temperature differences can aggravate rheumatism among old people, and trigger some problems among children."
Xu says people's health is a dynamic balance between their immune system and pathogenic factors.
While air conditioning is not a problem for healthy young people, it can decrease the efficiency of the immune system and cause problems for old people, young children, and office workers who rarely see sunlight.
Xu warns that direct air from the air conditioner can be an especial burden on the body.
At the same time, air conditioners should be cleaned and disinfected regularly to avoid contamination, as also humidifiers and showers.
To avoid such problems, Xu suggests people do not turn their air conditioners too low, although she says it also depends on individuals' health conditions.
"Room temperature should not be more than 10 degrees lower than the outside," she advises. "Normally 26-28 C is okay."
The doctor also suggests regular ventilation to avoid feculent air. Besides, people sweat a great deal in summer, which also lowers the body's resistance to illness. Therefore people should replenish water and salt. However, drinking a lot of water will lower the density of acid in the stomach, and lower immunity to bacteria and virus. So be careful of diarrhea caused by cold salads.
On the other hand, Xu strongly recommends regular physical exercises, especially outdoors, to get some sunlight, and enhance the body's immunity.
"People who sit in the office all day should stand up and walk around at least every one hour, to give the eyes some time to rest, and the body time to relax," the doctor says. "If you find it difficult to take time to do exercise, walk to work, and take the stairs instead of taking the lift at home and at your workplace."
Sweating is a Toxic Flush
Our bodies are filled with lots of harmful toxins. We pick up toxins every single day from the foods that we eat, the environment that we live in, and those things that are all around us. While the body can eliminate some of these toxins, it cannot get rid of all of them without a bit of sweat.

Day 276
Thoughts: Does it feel like you have split personalities? One part of you wants to be healthy and good, the other part wants to indulge and binge; thoughts like "I will start tomorrow, I will never do so and so again, or never eat this again" only to come tomorrow and the cycle is repeated yet another day. I did this for years and in an attempt to break my vicious bingeing habit I created The Earth Diet.
Gurdjieff a servent seeker after esoteric knowledge shares his teachings and how man is a plural being. When we speak of ourselves ordinarily, we speak of 'I'. We say 'I did this', 'I think this', 'I want to do this' - but this is a mistake.
There is no such thing as 'I', or rather there are hundreds, thousands of little 'I's" in every one of us. We are divided in ourselves but we cannot recognize the plurality of our being except by observation and study. At one moment it is one 'I' that acts, at the next moment it is another 'I'. It is because the 'I's' in ourselves are contradictory that we do not function harmoniously.
We live ordinarily with only a very minute part of our functions and our strength, because we do not recognize that we are machines, as we do not know the nature and working of our mechanism. We are machines.
We are governed entirely by external circumstances. All our actions follow the line of least resistance to the pressure of outside circumstances.
Try for yourselves: can you govern your emotions? No. You may try to surpress them or cast out one emotion by another emotion. But you cannot control it. It controls you. Or you may decide to do something - your intellectual 'I' may make such a decision. But when the time comes to do it, you may find yourself doing just the opposite.
If circumstances are favorable to your decision you may do it, but if they are unfavorable you will do whatever they direct. You do not control your actions. You are a machine and external circumstances govern your actions irrespective of your desires.
I do not say nobody can control his actions. I say you can't because you are divided. There are two parts to you, a strong and a weak part. If your strength grows, your weakness will also grow, and will become negative strength unless you learn to stop it.
If we learn to control our actions, that will be different. When a certain level of being is reached we can really control every part of ourself - but, as we are now, we cannot even do what we decide to do.
Question: What is a higher state of being?
Answer: There are several states of consciousness.
1) Sleep, in which our machine still functions but at a very low pressure.
2) Waking state, as we are at this moment. These two are all the average man knows.
3. What is called self-consciousness. It is the moment when a man is aware both of himself and of his machine. We have it in flashes, but only in flashes. There are moments when you become aware not only of what you are doing but also of your self doing it. You see both 'I' and the 'here' of 'I am here'.

Triumphs: There have been times on this Earth Diet challenge where I wanted to give up - I even held a packet of oreos in my hand - I felt tired and defeated, like it was a struggle. Then I remembered that I created a habit of eating processed foods, junk foods, bingeing and overeating for many years and that me expecting these urges to just go away in a week or two is very callow of me. If it took 5 years of me creating a habit, why shouldn't it take the same to create another?! Gurdjieff said “Without struggle, no progress and no result. Every breaking of habit produces a change in the machine.”
What I Ate Today:
Food fest 1: A orange and grapefruit juice.
Food fest 2: Chocolate Peanut Butter Balls!
Food fest 3: A avocado.
Food fest 4: A bowl of peanuts in a shell :)

Day 275
Thoughts: The future of human life on earth belongs solely to those who can protect the integrity of their genetic code. It only makes sense, right? And yet most humans are damaging their DNA with toxic chemicals and medical imaging radiation.
Natural News featured an article about Genopocalypse Genetic Integrity and say the day will soon come that informed women will refuse to date, marry or have children with men who follow poor nutritional habits. "You eat junk foods? Put your pants back on and get out!"
You see, scientific evidence is mounting on the relationship between food choice and genetic integrity. Men who eat a lot of processed meats, fast foods and junk foods have low sperm quality. But it's more than just an infertility question... it's also a question of the transgenerational genetic integrity of his offspring.
A man who pursues an unhealthy diet, it turns out, not only increases the risk of numerous diseases in his direct offspring (cancer, diabetes, infertility, etc.), he also increases that risk for multiple generations of offspring.
This was recently demonstrates in a laboratory study conducted by Georgetown University Medical Center and presented at the American Association for Cancer Research which showed that cancer risk attributable to the junk food fed to parent rats was passed through two generations even if the direct offspring ate a healthy diet.
In other words, for all you women out there, if you choose to have children with a man who's eating junk foods, not only will your children have an increased risk of disease, but their children will, too! And that's true even if your children follow a healthy lifestyle!
Now sure, if you're not concerned about your family line, then just mate with anybody who can produce sperm -- and there are a lot of those to choose from. But two, three or four generations from now, the sperm that you chose to combine with your own eggs may turn out to be a ticking genetic time bomb that ends your family line forever through DNA mutations leading to disease and infertility.
The genopocalypse
I call this coming wave of global infertility the "genopocalypse," which of course means the "genetic apocalypse."
The genetic integrity of the human race is collapsing due to exposure to DNA-altering toxic chemicals in foods, medicines, household products and personal care products. The cumulative toxic burden in first-world citizens has now reached such a high level of toxicity that genetic integrity may no longer be guaranteed from one generation to the next. Infertility rates are skyrocketing, and even when babies are born through infertility intervention clinics, they suffer far higher rates of genetic mutations and abnormalities than babies conceived naturally.
We are now watching the genetic migration of the human race. It is slowly transitioning to a race of infertile mutants who express very high rates of diseases like cancer and health conditions like infertility. No one knows whether genetic integrity can be recovered once it compromised. The very nature of gene inheritance leaves that doubtful.
The upshot of all this is that people who want a family future must be careful to choose healthy reproductive partners. Beyond the quality of the person you are deciding to have children with, you need to consider the quality of their eggs and sperm.
Watch out for damaged eggs
So far, we've talked about how women need to watch out for damaged sperm. But the good news for men is that sperm regenerates every few days, so by simply changing your diet right now, you can begin to produce healthier sperm a few days later. Switching to a healthy diet for 3 - 6 months can result in radically improved sperm quality.
But even this has its limits: The upper limit of male sperm viability is still heavily influenced by the diet of his mother during her pregnancy. Yep: The nutritional factors present during the growth of the fetus also strongly influence the lifetime reproductive viability of males.
For women, it's even more serious. Women, you see, are born with all the eggs they'll ever have in their lives. Those eggs were formed as a fetus, and the health of those eggs is largely determined by the diet of the pregnant mom carrying the female fetus.
So if you're a woman, it is your mom's diet that determined the genetic integrity of the eggs you carry right now. And changing your own diet won't regenerate healthier eggs.
So if you're a man seeking a healthy partner to have children with, you need to ask about not just the diet of your female partner, but also the diet of her mother during that pregnancy.
It's getting tricky, isn't it? There's nothing quite like interrogating your future mother-in-law about her eating habits...
But it gets even more complicated than that.
Irradiated women's eggs
Because women are born with all the eggs they will ever have, any radiation they receive from medical imaging scans or medical treatments will obviously expose those eggs to radiation.
A single CT scan can expose a women to as much as 600 times the radiation of a full chest X-ray. Radiation treatments for cancer are even worse: They can expose a woman's eggs to levels of radiation that can be thousands of times the exposure of a chest X-ray.
This radiation, not surprisingly, causes genetic mutations in a woman's eggs, making them ticking genetic time bombs should they ever meet with a sperm cell and initiate conception.
So men who are seeking children and who know about this will increasingly want to choose female partners who have not been exposed to medical imaging scans or cancer radiotherapy treatments. Women who undergo a lot of medical imaging, it turns out, may not be such good reproductive partners from a purely genetic point of view. (Obviously there's a lot more to being good parents than just the integrity of your genetic code, but no one can argue that genetic integrity isn't important for the health of your children.)
The ethics of genetics
Now, I realize this whole discussion is extremely uncomfortable for many people. It isn't politically correct to talk about women's eggs as being "damaged goods" even if they technically are. And it's not polite to talk about how the sperm count of most men today is lower than that of a rat. Yet these are the stubborn scientific truths we must now begin to consider as a race that seeks to survive through multiple generations.
The future of human life on earth will, quite obviously, be inherited by those who can protect their genetic code. And that is going to be accomplished only by a relatively small number of couples who combine healthy sperm with healthy eggs while avoiding radiation and toxic chemicals. Essentially, the future of human life on our planet is going to belong to people who avoid pharmaceuticals and medical imaging, who avoid toxic chemicals in foods and who follow a largely organic lifestyle.
Families that expose themselves to medical imaging scans and toxic chemicals in foods and pharmaceuticals are committing genetic suicide that will play out over subsequent generations. In other words, these people aren't dropping dead right now, but the DNA damage they pass on from one generation to the next will accumulate to the point where infertility ends the family line.
So much for the Joneses. It turns out they killed off their family line by corrupting their own DNA so badly that their daughters can no longer conceive. So what to do about that? Go get more medical imaging scans to find out what's wrong, of course! (You can see how this gets worse...)
It's worth pointing out that in this article, I'm not saying that women with damaged eggs or men with damaged sperm are bad people. This is not a statement about their morality or their fitness to be good parents. Rather, it's solely about their genetic integrity and how the lack of healthy DNA has very real consequences in the real world.
All this means that vegan men should be heading to the sperm banks to fill up the cryo canisters there. It is the sperm of our healthiest eaters that may hold the key to the future of the human race.
There might even be a science fiction novel to be found in this storyline, come to think of it: The year is 2065, the human race is dying out, nobody can reproduce, and a scientist sends soldiers through a time machine to 1984 so they can harvest someone's sperm. It's not exactly "Terminator." More like "Sperminator," but you get the point.
I find it fascinating that the human race is right now saving plant seeds in case of a global apocalypse, but nobody (that I know of, at least) is saving human sperm and eggs for long term disaster storage. Shouldn't we be doing that? Shouldn't we find the healthiest men and women who lead holistic, chemical-free lives and see if they'll donate some of their own seeds for the future of humankind?
This is important because by the time mainstream scientists realize how corrupted human DNA has become, it may be far too late to do anything about it. If the chemical industry has anything to do with it, any evidence revealing such a trend would be buried under a mountain of denials anyway. Heck, the FDA still approved of aspartame in the food supply!
Choosing mates
See, right now, few adults choose their reproductive partners based on genetic integrity. A man is far more likely to choose a female mate based on cosmetic factors such as waist-to-hip ratio, clear skin, size and shape of breasts and so on. Women, in turn are far more likely to choose their male counterparts based on his financial resources and the apparent power of the male in his circles of influence. (I'm not making this stuff up, this is what has been discovered by research into the bizarre world of mating...)
Neither men nor women typically consider the nutritional habits of their potential reproductive mates. In fact, for most potential couples, this is perhaps the furthest thing from their minds. "Oh baby, you're just so sexy. Please tell me you don't eat Doritos!"
But my point is that as the evidence about the genopocalypse becomes more evident, people will indeed begin to ask this question of their potential mates. And in time, the question may actually be combined with a genetic integrity test that produces a score much like your credit score. If you don't score high enough on the genetic integrity test, you may have trouble finding partners who are willing to have children with you.
That would be a pretty weird social setting for dating, wouldn't it?
At some point, of course, even governments might get involved and restrict people with low genetic integrity scores from having children. This would set off a whole new era of eugenics and Big Brother intervention in the lives of private citizens. That's too much to cover in this article, but it's an important discussion to cover at a later date.
Why is no one talking about this?
Speaking of dates, by the way, this article is perhaps 25 years ahead of its time. Virtually no one in the world today is thinking about these issues. I've never seen this mentioned anywhere in the scientific literature or popular press. This won't become a popular concern for many years... perhaps for many generations. I've been writing about this for a little over a year (or so).
The world is right now blindly headed towards a genetic catastrophe -- but only for humans. Except in rare cases, animals and plants are not facing the levels of toxicity currently being self-induced by humans. The human race is destroying itself, and it is doing so blindly, with virtually no widespread knowledge of the genetic destruction right now being caused by toxic chemicals, pharmaceuticals, consumer products, foods and medical imaging procedures.
The truth about widespread infertility will continue to be covered up by the powerful corporations that make money from medical imaging, pharmaceuticals, etc. Heck, they even make money off infertility. So there's really no incentive for anyone in a position of power today to tell you the truth about how Big Business is destroying your genetic future.
That's why you can expect this to be a long-running cover-up story that will go on for decades before the truth of the matter finally becomes evident. And by then, it will likely be too late.
In the mean time, be careful who you mate with. Check out what's in their refrigerator late at night, and if it's a bunch of processed junk food, you might want to think twice about combining your genetic code with theirs.

Day 274
Thoughts: 'Gluten-Free' Foods are Often Contaminated
People who avoid gluten should know that foods that are supposed to be naturally gluten-free are often contaminated.
Grains such as oats, millet, and rice don't have this protein. But a new survey found that some of these products had picked up traces of gluten -- probably from being grown or processed near grains that do contain gluten.
According to Reuters:
"[Researchers] analyzed 22 naturally gluten-free grains, seeds, and flours off supermarket shelves, only looking at products that weren't specifically advertised as being gluten-free ... Seven of the 22 products wouldn't pass the FDA's gluten-free test -- and one product, a type of soy flour, had a gluten content of almost 3,000 parts per million".
Dr Mercola says that gluten, a protein found in grains such as wheat, rye and barley, wreaks havoc in people with celiac disease, triggering an immune reaction that damages the small intestine and prevents absorption of nutrients.
According to statistics from the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center, an average of one out of every 133 otherwise healthy people in the United States suffers from celiac disease (CD), but previous studies have found that this number may be as high as 1 in 33 in at-risk populations.
With a potential incidence rate that high, the news that you cannot trust even naturally gluten-free grains to be free of gluten contamination is disconcerting indeed.
Which Grains are Gluten Free?
Certain types of grains, seeds and flours available are naturally gluten-free, including:
* Oats
* Millet
* Buckwheat
* Quinoa
* Sorghum
* Soy
* Flax and amaranth seed
* Rice
But if this study is any indication, cross-contamination can and does occur, most likely during processing, and many companies simply aren't testing to make sure the final product is still gluten-free.
The study found that of the 22 naturally gluten-free products tested, seven of them would not be considered gluten-free under the proposed FDA rule for gluten-free labeling, which requires products labeled as 'gluten-free' to contain less than 20 parts per million (ppm) of gluten.
Four of those seven products also did not carry an allergen advisory statement.
One type of soy flour tested turned out to contain nearly 3,000 ppm of gluten. Millet flour and sorghum flour were two other products that failed the gluten-free test. The two millet flour products averaged between 305-327 ppm, and the sorghum flour tested contained a mean of 234 ppm.
Now I am no fan of soy for a number of good reasons. One of the primary ones being is that nearly 95 percent of it is GMO and laden with the toxic Roundup pesticide. But even if it were organic soy flour, there are many reasons to avoid non-fermented soy.
Most People Need to Avoid Grains
Celiac disease is just one of several autoimmune disorders that can be significantly improved by avoiding grains. And if you want to avoid heart disease, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes or even cancer, you'd also want to severely limit your grain consumption, or avoid grains entirely.
Why?
Because grains and sugars are inherently pro-inflammatory and will worsen any condition that has chronic inflammation at its root – and not just inflammation in your gut, but anywhere in your body.
Those with celiac disease know the importance of eliminating grains from their diet, as many cannot tolerate even minute amounts of gluten, but this message has still to take root in the collective mind when it comes to dealing with autoimmune diseases and other inflammatory conditions.
This is unfortunate, because in my experience about 75-80 percent of ALL people benefit from avoiding grains, even whole sprouted grains, whether you have a gluten intolerance or not.
The Many Sources of Hidden Gluten
The treatment for celiac disease or gluten intolerance is a gluten-free diet, which means abstaining from grains and any food that contains gluten. Unfortunately, as this study clearly shows, you may not be able to trust that otherwise naturally gluten-free grains have not been contaminated…
You also need to be aware that food manufacturers are not required by law to identify all possible sources of gluten on their product labels, so reading the label may not be enough to identify other hidden sources of gluten.
For example, gluten often hides in processed foods like ready-made soups, soy sauce, candies, cold cuts, and various low- and no-fat products, just to name a few, under labels such as:
* Malts
* Starches
* Hydrolyzed vegetable protein (HVP)
* Texturized vegetable protein (TVP)
* Natural flavoring
Celiac.com has a long list of label ingredients that typically contain hidden gluten.
For helpful tips and guidelines on how to approach food companies for more detailed information about their ingredients, see The Gluten Solution site. They also offer more detailed information about the current state of gluten-free labeling legislation.
In light of these recent study results, if you have celiac disease you may also want to contact the manufacturer of the gluten-free product in question and find out if they test for gluten content and can guarantee that it is not contaminated.
Aside from that, your best bet is to simply focus on a diet of fresh, whole foods, preferably organic whenever possible.

Day 273
Thoughts: How you can become fat without overeating ...
Most processed food contains MSG. Study shows MSG-fed mice became grossly obese. MSG is in more foods than you know, most probably foods that you eat - regularly.
MSG that is fed to a fetus and/or to an infant moves through the incomplete (immature) blood-brain-barrier in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus and kills brain cells (neurons), causing permanent damage to the endocrine system that controls weight gain. In other words, when delivered to the fetus in utero and/or fed to the very young, MSG produces brain damage that damages the endocrine system and causes obesity as subjects approach maturity. Diet and exercise will do little of a permanent nature for a person whose endocrine system has been damaged in this way.
MSG has also been found to disrupt the metabolism of some otherwise seemingly normal healthy adults, affecting hormones that regulate weight. Continuous ingestion of MSG raises some hormone levels, including levels of the hormone insulin. When the insulin level is raised, the glucose level is lowered, which is the body’s signal to eat more food in order to raise (balance) the glucose level.
Truth In Labeling states that everyone knows that some people get reactions after eating the food ingredient monosodium glutamate --reactions that include migraine headaches, upset stomach, fuzzy thinking, diarrhea, heart irregularities, asthma, and/or mood swings. What many don’t know, is that more than 40 different ingredients contain the chemical in monosodium glutamate (processed free glutamic acid) that causes these reactions. The following list of ingredients that contain processed free glutamic acid has been compiled over the last 20 years from consumers’ reports of adverse reactions and information provided by manufacturers and food technologists.
(Last updated June, 2010)
Names of ingredients that always contain processed free glutamic acid:
Glutamic acid (E 620), Glutamate (E 620)
Monosodium glutamate (E 621)
Monopotassium glutamate (E 622)
Calcium glutamate (E 623)
Monoammonium glutamate (E 624)
Magnesium glutamate (E 625)
Natrium glutamate
Yeast extract
Anything “hydrolyzed”
Any “hydrolyzed protein”
Calcium caseinate, Sodium caseinate
Yeast food, Yeast nutrient
Autolyzed yeast
Gelatin
Textured protein
Vetsin
Ajinomoto
Names of ingredients that often contain or produce processed free glutamic acid:
Carrageenan (E 407)
Bouillon and broth
Stock
Whey protein, Whey protein concentrate
Whey protein isolate
Any “flavors” or “flavoring”
Maltodextrin
Citric acid (E 330)
Anything “ultra-pasteurized”
Barley malt
Pectin (E 440)
Protease
Anything “enzyme modified”
Anything containing “enzymes”
Malt extract
Soy sauce
Soy sauce extract
Soy protein, Soy protein concentrate, Soy protein isolate
Anything “protein fortified”
Anything “fermented”
Seasonings
The following ingredients work synergistically with MSG to enhance flavor. If they are present for flavoring purposes, so is MSG.
Disodium 5’-guanylate (E 627)
Disodium 5’-inosinate (E-631)
Disodium 5'-ribonucleotides (E 635)
The following are ingredients suspected of containing or creating sufficient processed free glutamic acid to serve as MSG-reaction triggers in HIGHLY SENSITIVE people:
Corn starch Corn syrup Modified food starch Lipolyzed butter fat Dextrose
Rice syrup, brown rice syrup Milk powder Reduced fat milk (e.g.., skim milk; 1% milk; 2% milk) most things low fat or no fat anything Enriched or Vitamin enriched
Ban MSG? Not a chance. If the FDA banned MSG, the drug companies would lose billions. Think about how much money they make treating asthma, migraine headache, seizures, depression, heart irregularities and all of the the other reactions to MSG. And cancer, too. Acid hydrolyzed proteins contain carcinogenic propanols.
Fact. Protein powders do not contain intact protein. They contain amino acids that have been freed from protein through a manufacturing process. They invariably contain neurotoxic (brain damaging), endocrine disrupting processed free glutamic acid (MSG) and neurotoxic, endocrine disrupting aspartic acid. Some, if not all, also contain neurotoxic L-cysteine.
Fact. It is only amino acids that are free (outside of protein) when you ingest them that cause MSG-type adverse reactions. (The amino acids in protein will not cause MSG-type adverse reactions.)
Fact. Exercise taken either before or after ingesting MSG will exacerbate an MSG reaction in MSG-sensitive people. Included in those reactions are heart irregularities. (That might explain why young athletes, who bulk up on protein powder, and often drink MSG and/or aspartame-containing beverages during athletic events, are collapsing on athletic fields.)
Fact. Chances are that if you are sensitive to MSG, you will also be sensitive to the processed free aspartic acid found in aspartame, AminoSweet, Neotame, NutraSweet, Equal............ (It's the rare chewing gum that won't have aspartame in it -- not necessarily labeled as such.)
Fact.**These are the ingredients that contain processed free glutamic acid (MSG).
Fact. MSG-containing ingredients manufactured using acid hydrolysis contain carcinogenic (cancer causing) propanols. (It is impossible to tell from a label which ingredients are manufactured using acid hydrolysis and which are not.)
Fact.**The glutamate industry has been pouring out propaganda on the “safety” of monosodium glutamate since 1969. They are rich, powerful, and have been extraordinarily successful in suppressing information that might embarrass them while enhancing the image of their product.
Fact. There is no government body that is going to tell you where MSG is hidden in food, cosmetics, dietary supplements, or pharmaceuticals. (Not the Senate, Congress, Whitehouse, FDA, USDA, EPA, or CDC. They have all been asked. They have all refused.)
Fact. Most traditions physicians have been conned into believing that the MSG in food (and elsewhere) is harmless. (There are medical schools text books and food encyclopedias with chapters written by Ajinomoto, Co., Inc. that tell them so.)
Fact. Those who manufacture processed food often take great pains to hide the presence of MSG from consumers. (They sometimes replace monosodium glutamate with MSG-containing ingredients that give no clue to its presence. They call them “clean labels”. Manufacturers are also often less than truthful when consumers inquire about the presence of MSG in their products.)
IF MSG ISN'T HARMFUL, WHY IS IT HIDDEN?

Day 272
Thoughts: Who are you in the face of no agreement?
What if you were told it’s too late, you are too old, too sick to do something that you loved? Would you stop or would you keep on keeping on despite of what others say, do, and what ‘happens’ to you along the path of your dream?
Unstoppable is Bob Balletta. Bob had a heart attack at 43 which restricted him from lifting weights for 4 years, until 47 and then he entered into the world of body building competition.
Bob was 50 years old when he first won his Masters I.P.A World Record!
Today I had the opportunity to train with Bob, otherwise known as 'Grumpy' quite contradictory to his nature! Bob says 'even a broken clock strikes right twice a day - there is no 'bad'" - and is also the foundation in which he has built his life.
Bob says of his experience, “I finally found a doctor who would permit me to lift and I decided at that time not only to return to lifting but to try competing in power lifting. To my knowledge I am the only person in the history of the sport that competed with my type of medical history.”
Bob went on to earn the title of ‘Masters Three World Record Bench Press’. This record was held in the International Powerlift Association. Bob competed in the 220 lb. weight class and broke the record initially three times in the first meet that he competed in. The original record was 365 lb. “My opening lift shattered the record by 20 lbs. I opened with 385lb, went to 400 lbs. and finished with 405lb. I set the record in Pennsylvania, and six month later I broke my own record in Iron Island Gym in Oceanside, Long Island. I set that record at 420 lbs.”
Giving up was not an option. “Later on at the age of fifty eight, I bettered my record with a lift of 425 lbs.”
Life happens and we all have ‘stuff’ that gets in the way of our dreams, and it is how we 'be' in the face of that, that determines who we are. “I had to overcome previously stated medical difficulties. I think that my attitude towards opposition is very positive. I like taking on challenges and try to accomplish things that initially seem out of reach.”
DREAMS and being unstoppable...
Bob was told that he would never be able to lift heavy and that he says “Was my incentive to not only disprove that but to set my sights on a world record. I feel that I was very fortunate and God gave me a little bit of a genetic gift to be able to accomplish what I did.”
Bob believes that perseverance is essential to accomplishing anything. “You must have confidence in the fact that you can achieve your goals and will never give up on anything you believe in. In my thinking there is no such thing as bad, it is simply the way you accept things. The difference between success and failure is simply the amount of attempts that you make.”
Bob explained that when you take on a challenge such as this one, it takes an enormous amount of dedication. “The training regimen was over the top. I once again was fortunate in my training because my trainer (and also my son in law) was owner of sixteen world records. He was the strongest man in the world at the time pound for pound. He trained my very hard and was extremely supportive of my efforts. We made an excellent team with me setting goals for myself and he trained me to reach them.
Anything is possible, if you believe it. “What it meant to me to accomplish this was proof positive that anything can be accomplished if you direct both the powers of your body and mind towards your goal. I never had a negative thought while training and I never had a failure. If I was unable to progress at any given time it was never a failure but simply a goal for my next training session. I feel very fulfilled with my accomplishment and I revel in the credibility that is attached to it. This has enabled me to train many people and bring them to their goals. I find great solace in the fact that people respect me and my accomplishment both.
Bob now trains people at Big Al’s Family Fitness!
“It is a rush to feel that people have confidence in the training that I give them and belief that under my supervision anything and everything is possible for them.”
Be UNSTOPPABLE.
Do the action.
Have anything and everything.

Day 271
Thoughts: Harvard Medical School rolls out new rules to stop its faculty from accepting bribes from Big Pharma!
(NaturalNews)It is common practice for medical professionals to accept gifts, free travel, meals and other forms of indirect compensation from drug companies and medical device manufacturers for giving speeches that endorse their products. But Harvard Medical School has now made a new rule that prohibits its 11,000 faculty members from engaging in this activity.
The school is also requiring that faculty who consult with drug companies, join their boards and work with them in any other ways, report all income over $5,000 publicly. The school is promising to keep a better watch on the relationships that its faculty has with drug and medical device companies as well.
"We're anxious to be viewed publicly as doing what's in the best interest of our patients," explained Dr. Robert Mayer, co-chairman of the committee responsible for Harvard's new policy.
According to both Dr. Mayer and Dr. Jeffrey Flier, dean of Harvard's Medical School, faculty will still be allowed to work with such companies to perform industry-funded research, as well as be paid to sit on scientific advisory boards.
The new rules were spurred by Senator Charles Grassley's (R-IA) recent investigation concerning Harvard physicians who allegedly broke federal and medical school conflict-of-interest rules. Harvard has responded by proposing the new rules which are designed to improve its image in the view of the public.
A recent Boston Globe article about the new policy explains that Dr. Mayer's intent with the new rules is that they "are designed to keep doctors from becoming -- or being perceived as -- marketing agents for industry." So it is difficult to ascertain whether anything will actually change, or whether it will simply be perceived as changing.

Vegetables have more protein than nuts, seeds, or grains!
Victoria Boutenko describes in her award-winning book "Green For Life" how and why dark leafy greens have the most digestible and assimilable proteins available to humankind. They are also the best source of minerals and calcium. And Kale is the most nutrient dense food measured by Agreggate Nutrient Density, or the most nutrients per calorie.
Here are two recipes from The Garden Diet to get your Greens for life!

Day 269
Thoughts: Defining Pain ...
"Pain" is by spiritual definition the resistance to the experience that you have created that is taking place in your life.
If that is unacceptable to your analytical mind, then I only ask that you reflect upon free will. Your truth is either that you are created in the image of an unlimited creator and are indeed an unlimited soul or that you are a restricted creation controlled by someone or something outside of yourself.
I find the latter to be an unbelievable understanding of your greatness but I realize it is the limited ego's defense, for ego resides in limitation and fear of your own true power. Having shared the above thoughts, I would suggest that next time you perceive something in your physical body that is not functioning the way you desire, simply change your perception. First of all, perceive that is functioning perfectly as you created it to function. As the creator, you are totally, totally in charge, in control and responsible for how the body is functioning. So embrace whatever is taking place as your creation. For until you accept your creations you cannot heal them. Whether this is minor pain or something that you consider to be major. It doesn't matter. Embrace it as your creation and love it as it is. An amazing thing becomes to happen when you wrap a creation in love. Love is reality not ego-based fear and limitation. Love is All That Is.
The body is an energy pattern in motion. It is a vibrational rhythm. It is a vibration in motion and subject to change with each thought. However, you perceive the body to be fixed in a vibrational rhythm pattern and thus very solid. Many feel there is nothing they can do to immediately shift what is taking place to alleviate the pain they are experiencing. The belief is that there are procedures to be followed to restore harmony or that there is nothing that can be done to restore harmony within the physical body.
TAKING OUT THE ENERGY KINKS
Embrace as perfect whatever is taking place in your body. In so doing you are taking the "kinks" out of the energy pattern that are creating the distortion that is creating pain in your body. You are allowing the energy to re balance itself. I would say try this with a minor infraction into your vibrational rhythm pattern. Perhaps you stub your toe. Instead of resisting and declaring that is painful, take just a moment to make a decision of choice. Take a deep breath and embrace the distorted vibration that is anchored in your toe. As you embrace this vibration, see yourself being flooded, absolutely flooded with the most perfect divine love. Allow yourself to be that love. This will allow the energy pattern to realign itself. You will be amazed at how quickly there is no pain, how quickly the body restores itself to normal. You have a choice. Lets say you stub your toe. You curse the chair. You scream in pain. You get angry. Or you just grab your toe and hold it. When you do this you send a message that says, "this is a painful experience to me." You are also sending a message to your body that says, "I want pain. I claim pain." Your body or vibrational energy pattern tightens up to give you what it thinks you want in response to the experience you just had. If you hear nothing else, understand that you are declaring your desire, your creation of pain. The vibrational energy pattern of your body only responds to what it thinks you want.
Well, to those that found this of interest ... good health.
